7th Annual Lose the Training Wheels Camp

7th Annual Lose the Training Wheels Camp
Scheduled for Danville, IL

Danville, IL– The David S. Palmer Arena is gearing up to host Danville’s 7th Annual Lose the Training Wheels Camp, June 18th – 22nd, 2012. The camp is an adaptive bicycle program that teaches students with varying disabilities how to ride two wheel bicycles without the aid of training wheels.

The program gradually introduces the instability of a bicycle by using unique adapted bikes which allow children to lose their training wheels and ride conventional bicycles at our Danville Camp. We are involved in a program and its delivery to permit children of all ages to literally “Lose the Training Wheels™.” The program is designed around the individual, from the bike through the progression of changes to the wheels.

“The camp is an amazing week in the life of the student, the parent and that volunteer.” states Peter Blackmon, Arena General Manager and Camp Co-Coordinator. “WE really don’t teach as much as provide a mechanism for the student to teach themselves so the autonomy essentially begins day one. The rest of the week is all tears and smiles as we watch the students’ growth over five days in 1 hour and 15 minute increments.”

The camp holds up to 5 sessions per day, each lasting for 1 ¼ hours per session, with up to 8 students per session (40 per camp.) Approximately 100 volunteers are required for each camp.

Registration for the camp is $75.00 and scholarships are available. NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY!
