The Autism McLean Holiday Party and Annual Meeting will be held at the Children’s Discovery Museum on Sunday, November 29th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

Wear your “ugliest” sweater. We will have prizes for the best or most unique ugly sweater.

Bring the whole family! Pizza and beverages and Hot Chocolate bar will be provided – please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Autism Parent Care Group

Eastview Care Groups are campus-based, supportive small groups that are designed to provide emotional and spiritual growth to individuals who are walking through a variety of life circumstances. The Autism Parent Care Group will be specifically for parents for children on the autism spectrum.

What is NAMI’s Family-to-Family Program?

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a free, 9-week course for family caregivers of individuals with severe mental illnesses.  

  • The course is taught by trained family members  
  • All instruction and course materials are free to class participants
  • Over 300,000 family members have graduated from this national program

What Does The Course Include?

Current information about schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders

  • Up-to-date information about medications, side effects, and strategies for medication adherence
  • Current research related to the biology of brain disorders and the evidence-based, most effective treatments to promote recovery
  • Gaining empathy by understanding the subjective, lived experience of a person with mental illness
  • Learning in special workshops for problem solving, listening, and communication techniques
  • Acquiring strategies for handling crises and relapse
  • Focusing on care for the caregiver: coping with worry, stress, and emotional overload
  • Guidance on locating appropriate supports and services within the community
  • Information on advocacy initiatives designed to improve and expand services

Peace, Love Autism Walk and 5k – Premise Alert Program

Officer Law of the Bloomington Police Dept. will be attending our Peace, Love, Autism run/walk to register families to the Premise Alert Program. Officer Law will be available from 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  See below on additional information on the Premise Alert Program.

Premise Alert Program

The Bloomington Police and Fire Departments have combined forces to offer our citizens the opportunity to participate in the Premise Alert Program.

The Illinois Premise Alert Program (Public Act 96-0788) provides for Public Safety Agencies in the State of Illinois to allow people with special needs the ability to provide information to Police, Fire and EMS personnel to be kept in a database. The information can then be provided to responders dealing with situations involving Special Needs Individuals.

The Bloomington Fire Department has created a Premise Alert Program form that can be accessed online at: http://www.cityblm.org/pap. The form can be completed by families, caregivers, or individuals with special needs. The information provided in the form will be entered into databases maintained by the Bloomington Communication Center and may be shared with other police, fire or EMS agencies as needed to provide services to the individual.…

Starplex Cinemas Presents Sensory Friendly Screenings

The Starplex hosts a sensory friendly movie monthly for anyone who might be overstimulated attending a typical movie experience. Starplex turns the lights up and the sound down so the movie is more enjoyable for those that can not handle or do not enjoy all that stimulation. Moviegoers are free to walk around and vocalize during the movie.

Special screenings will happen the 2nd Saturday of each month.

One free child admission with $6 adult ticket purchase. Seating is limited – first come, first serve.

Each person that wants to ride rides will pay $12 and pick 3 rides to ride. Choices are:

2015 Autism McLean’s Peace, Love, Autism Run/Walk

It's that time! Register today for the Peace, Love, Autism run/walk. Our event will be at Tipton Park on Saturday, September 19, 2015.

  • The 5K will start at 8:00am
  • The kids fun run will start at 9:30am
  • The 1 mile walk start at 10:00am

We hope to see you out at Tipton! All proceeds benefit our local community and families that are impacted by autism. Please consider joining the event and also helping us fundraise to better serve our community.
