Special Needs Music Therapy

Music therapy is the use of clinical, evidence-based music interventions by a board-certified professional to help achieve positive change.  Through singing, instrument play, and more, participants will be addressing various academic, social, physical, and emotional goals.  No musical expertise or experience is needed in order to benefit from music therapy!

  • Next Class: Saturday’s – Beginning August 30th   9:00-9:50 am
  • Cost: $72 –
  • People can purchase a 6 session punch card for $72, and they just sign up for the sessions they would like to attend
  • Drop-In Rate (if class is not full): $15 – ½ off to test the class for any first time visitor through November 1 (space limited)

Come and join us for a night of fun at Grady's Family Fun Park, Wednesday, July 23rd at 5:00pm.

Each person that wants to ride rides will pay $12 and pick 3 rides to ride. Choices are:

Help Us Pick a New Name

Dear Members,

We are seeking your help in choosing a new name for the Autism Society of McLean County.

In the past year we have been threatened with legal action from the Autism Society of America if we continue to use “Autism Society” in our name. While it is with a heavy heart that we have to do this, we know that it is our members not our name that makes this organization what it is. With that in mind; we believe that it would be appropriate for the members to help choose our new name.

After careful thought and much discussion we have narrowed the choices to what you see below. Please help us by choosing your favorite.

We look forward to continuing to work together with you in partnership, and trust that you are as excited as we are as we continue to grow and diversify to better serve McLean County.

Accessible Children’s Concert

Kim McCord of ISU is teaching a graduate course on Music and Disability this summer at the University of Illinois and is planning an accessible concert, similar to previous concerts held at ISU. This convert will be in a fairly large concert hall but with a stage that is accessible so children are able to come on stage and see and play the instruments. There will be an interpreter and everything will be accessible. 
 
During this concert, one doctoral student in percussion will perform on a 4 octave marimba and will also have different instruments. Shakers will be given away so children can play along. The entire concert will be uploaded to a private YouTube channel afterwards that you can access if your child wants to enjoy the music.
 
Everyone is welcome but the music will mostly be geared toward children ages 5-10. Parking is free and if you need help or assistance there will be students available to help move wheelchairs or explain where best to park and enter the building.…

2014 ASMC Run/Walk

It is that time of the year again to sign up for our Annual Run/Walk for Autism. Our event will again be at Tipton Park on Saturday, September 20, 2014. The 5K run will be at 9 a.m., following the results of the run will be our Kids Fun Run at 11! The walk will be at 12. We hope that you will consider joining our event as it will benefit our local community and families that are impacted by autism.

We again are hoping to raise $20,000. We need your support. Please consider joining the event and also helping us fundraise to better serve our community.

ASMC Baseball and Soccer Camp

ASMC is ready for another season of our annual baseball and soccer camps. This year, they'll be combined – and free! This is a great way for our kids to learn some of the fundamentals of baseball/soccer, social skills, and teamwork, all while making friends.

T-shirts will be available for any child that doesn't already have a sports camp t-shirt.

About the program:

This camp is open to any child who wants to be there. As long as they want to play, they are welcome to join us.

Our mission statement is simple: provide our kids the same experience as any other kid who plays a sport. This means, of course, practice, frustration, achievement, daydreaming, running, sharing, communicating, bonding, teamwork, turn taking, following directions and friendship.

Parents can help coach (which really means play and share the experience)

While investigating at Agency D3, kids will collect and log evidence about life of Jesus. 

As special agents, they will examine eyewitness reports, physical proof, and biblical accounts to uncover and defend the truth about how Jesus really is.
