Music is the Medicine / Anthony Gomes Benefit Concert

On Friday, May 16, Billboard recording artist Anthony Gomes will bring his scorching style of Blues to the Castle Theater in Bloomington. The release of his latest album “Up 2 Zero” represents a full-circle return to his love of high energy, guitar-driven blues rock. The new collection of songs combines straight ahead power blues compositions with tracks that incorporate soul-injected melodic moments.

The Music Is The Medicine Foundation (MiTM), founded by blues artist Anthony Gomes in 2010, is a national non-profit organization that was created to positively impact people's lives through the healing power of music and the belief that music can inspire tangible change in the world.

MiTM will be presenting a check to the Autism Society of McLean County to bring music to their annual summer camp for kids with autism. MiTM will also be presenting a presenting a guitar to the HEAL Foundation in the memory of Jon Miskulin.

Girl Talk – Puberty Workshop for Girls with Special Needs and their Moms

Advocate BroMenn will be offering “Girl Talk” for Girls with Special needs and their Moms (Caregivers) on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 5:30-7:30pm. This event will cover issues related to puberty for girls 10-15 years old and have a separate session for parents/ caregivers as well. Cost is 20$ per daughter/ caregiver pair and includes dinner. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Scholarships are available, just indicate your interest in a scholarship when you register.

Avanti’s Dinner Buffet for Adults with Disabilities

SSID is hosting a dinner buffet at Avant's Diner in Bloomington for individuals with disabilities 18+. Who is SSID? Students Supporting Individuals with Disabilities is a student organization at Illinois State University that provides volunteer opportunities for students to work with individuals with disabilities in the community.

*Salad, sandwiches, pasta, and pop will be served in Avant's private banquet room

Starplex Cinemas Presents Movies for Children With Special Needs

The Starplex hosts a sensory friendly movie monthly for children who might be overstimulated attending a typical movie experience. Starplex turns the lights up and the sound down so the movie is more enjoyable for children that can not handle or do not enjoy all that stimulation. Children are free to walk around and vocalize during the movie.

Special screenings will happen the 2nd Saturday of each month.

One free child admission with adult ticket purchase. Seating is limited – first come, first serve.

Kiwanis/ASMC Autism Camp Garage Sale Fundraiser

The Bloomington-Normal Young Professional Kiwanis Club, will be hosting our 5th annual Autism Society of McLean County (ASMC) Garage Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, April 5th, 2014.

All proceeds from the garage sale will be given to ASMC for Autism Camp.

Here are the details:

  • The garage sale will be on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 from 7:00a to 2:30p @ the Crossroads Center, 310 Wylie Drive, Suite 466, Normal, IL (near Farm & Fleet and next to Wehrenberg Theaters)
  • The garage sale itself will be a “name your own price” garage sale – no listed prices. The goal is to sell each and every item.
  • All unsold donated items will be given to the Mission Mart, Home Sweet Home, ReStore, etc.
