Autism McLean Basketball Camp

Autism McLean is ready for another season of our annual basketball camp! This is a great way for our kids to learn some of the fundamentals of basketball, social skills, and teamwork, all while making friends.

About the program:

This camp is open to any kid who wants to be there. As long as they want to play, they are welcome to join us.

Our mission statement is simple: provide our kids the same experience as any other kid who plays a sport. This means, of course, uniforms, practice, frustration, achievement, daydreaming, running, sharing, communicating, bonding, teamwork, turn taking, following directions and friendship.

Parents can help coach (which really means play and share the experience)

iCan Bike Program

Attached is a brochure and registration form for the Easter Seals iCan Bike program. The purpose of this program is to help children ages 8+ to learn how to ride a traditional two-wheel bicycle without training wheels.

We will be hosting this program from July 7-11, 2014 at the Army National Guard gymnasium in Bloomington. We invite children with a developmental delay or disability to attend this exciting program. Children will attend a 75-minute daily session for 5 consecutive days. We have trained staff and adaptive equipment that helps children learn how to ride at their own pace.

We Can Make Music Too! A Concert for Children with Disabilities

Dr. Kimberly McCord of ISU and her class, Music for the Exceptional Child, will be presenting a concert on March 23 and is inviting all children and their families. A instrument petting zoo will start at 1:30p with the concert to follow at 2:00p.

Children can participate by by singing, playing instruments, or dancing. The setting will be very informal and will be inclusive of children with sensory sensitivity and hearing loss. Children are encouraged to come and be themselves!

The Lego Movie – A Sensory Friendly Showing

The Lego Movie – A Sensory Friendly Showing

ASMC is partnering with Wehrenberg Galaxy 14 to present a sensory friendly showing of The Lego Movie. The lights are brought up and sound is turned down. It’s OK if people need to get up and move around or talk.

Download the attached coloring pages for the kids. Color them, scan them, and then email us (or give them to us at the movie) and we'll post them on our Facebook page.
 
We will also be giving away two lego sets, one for a girl and one for a boy. The kids will be handed a ticket when they arrive.

The movie starts at 11:00 AM, but please be there by 10:30 AM.

All families who have children and adults with autism welcome.

Say Something with Music – A Music Therapy Group to Enhance Social Skills and Communication

Music Therapy is an effective and enjoyable way to capture the attention and interest of participants of a variety of ages. It is an interactive process that promote communication and social skills and learning. Children will participate in music making experiences including, but not limited to, movement, song writing, interactive instrument and ensemble play and relaxation strategies, that focus on each child’s strengths and targets their needs.

Currently, we are offering this group for children 6 to 8 years of age who are looking for ways to enhance communication and social skills. Sessions will be limited to 6 children with a minimum of 4 children in order to move forward with the session.

Sessions will take place at the Lincoln Leisure Center, located in Bloomington, IL. Directions will be provided upon registration completion. In addition, you will receive a Music Therapy Group Checklist to fill out, which will provide the therapist with information about your child that will be necessary in order to provide the most effective music therapy experience!…
