Students Supporting Individuals with Disabilities (SSID), a student organization at ISU that focuses on providing volunteer opportunities for students to work with individuals with disabilities, is inviting teens for some bowing at the ISU Bowling and Billiards Center, Friday, November 13 from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM. This is event is free for teens with ASD.

The Gingerbread House’s 12 Days of Giving, Benefiting Autism McLean

The Gingerbread House is in the giving spirit and Autism McLean is going to benefit! On November 11th the toy store will donate 10% of sales for the day to our organization!

How can you help? Simply stop by the Gingerbread House (603 South Hannah Street, Bloomington) on Wednesday, November 11th and pick up a few things from your holiday shopping list. 10% of the total sales that day goes to us! Store hours are 9 AM – 7 PM.

That’s it. Simple and elegant, no coupons, no letting them know the purchase is for our group. Check off a to-do, get some great quality toys, and help support our organization!

2015-2016 Winter Bowling Camp

Autism McLean is setting up the pins for another season of our annual bowling camp!
 
Autism McLean Winter Bowling Camp:

  • When: Saturdays, 12/12, 12/19, 1/2, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/13, 2/20, 2/27 from 11:15 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Where: Pheasant Lanes, 804 N. Hershey Road, Bloomington, IL, 61704
  • Regisration fee: All member children camp fees will be covered by Autism McLean. Non-member children camp fees are $20. If adults would like to bowl on a team with their kid(s), they will need to pay $25 for the 10-week season.

Autism McLean Fall Sports

Autism McLean is kicking off fall with mixed field games. Games include dodgeball, indoor wiffleball, and several others. There's no cost to sign-up and participate. Our friends at SSID will be there to help the kids in all of their activities.

Sports are open to any child who wants to be there. As long as they want to play, they are welcome to join us.

Parents can help coach (which really means play and share the experience)

MOANA – A Sensory Friendly Showing

Autism McLean (AM) is partnering with Wehrenberg Galaxy 14 to present a sensory friendly showing of "MOANA" on December 4th.

 

The lights are turne up and sound is turned down. It’s OK if people need to get up and move around or talk.

The movie starts December 4th at 1:00 PM, but please be there by 12:30 PM.

All families who have a child with special needs welcome.

There is no cost for AM members. Non-member adults are $7 for and $6 for children (ages 2-11), with 12% off concessions. If you are not an AM member, please view the benefits of being a member and consider joining us. Camp Pathfinder

Camp Pathfinder is geared specifically to siblings of people living with autism (ages 6-21). Camp is located at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center (TPOC) and run in parallel with our Autism Camp Takoda.
 
The goal of Camp Pathfinder is to provide opportunities for our siblings to experience the majesty of TPOC and be recognized for their care and support of their siblings. Having a sibling with a special needs creates a unique relationship.

Camp Pathfinder will not interfere with our Takoda campers. We are focused on providing an experience that will be special for our Pathfinders and leave them with a sense of accomplishment and confidence.

Timber Pointe Outdoor Center's 170 wooded acres bordering four miles of shoreline on Lake Bloomington offers an incredible array of outdoor activities. Camp Pathfinder consists of:

  • Canoeing
  • Swimming
  • Hiking
  • High and Low Ropes Course
  • Zip line
  • Confidence Building
  • Friendship
  • Horses
  • Target Sports

Camp Takoda

Camp Takoda is dedicated to providing a valuable experience for children on the autism spectrum (ages 6-21) in a natural outdoor setting on Lake Bloomington. Children have the opportunity to engage in typical camp activities including: canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, games, and much more in a safe and supportive atmosphere. At Camp Takoda we have a high counselor-to-camper ratio to ensure that all campers are safe and positively encouraged to participate in each activity offered.

Our goal is to always provide a comfortable and motivating environment that will help each camper develop their individual abilities with an emphasis on building self-confidence, social skills, and independence – all in a fun setting!
